Did anyone get a chance to see the January 2009 issue of Scholastic Administrator? In the article “Untapped Potential,” author David Rapp stresses that the cell phone is the next big learning tool in the classroom. The article describes a pilot project that is underway in Canada in which 8th and 9th graders used their cell phones to record their “lit circle” discussions. This way the teacher could watch each individual group discussion that was happening in the classroom. Stressing appropriate use seems to be the answer. After some initial concern from parents, Rapp states that 90 percent of the parents now see the cell phone not as a replacement for learning but as a tool for learning. We can all recall Hall saying the same thing at least a year ago!
