If you work at a school like mine, you may have found it difficult to organize a DEN event in order to maintain your Star status. Well, we don’t organize these events just to keep that lovely badge on our blog, but you knew what I meant.

Anyway…The DEN Team has added some new ways for current DEN Stars to report an event. I, for one, am incredibly grateful for these additions! Since school got out for summer, I had been thinking about creating some screencasts to help our teachers utilize their Discovery Streaming accounts much more effectively. Now, I might even be able to consider one of those an event! (Screencasts aren’t specifically on the list, but I’m hoping it will be okay…especially if I upload it to the Educator Resources library.)

In case you missed it, here’s the information from the latest Weekly Update:

Ready to Do Some Learning?

Ahhh…summer! A great time to kick back and read a good (non-educational) book (does anybody have one?), fire up the ole barbecue, and spend some much-needed downtime with family and friends. And then there’s reality: clearing out old student files, backing up school pictures, rewriting lesson plans for next year, reading up on the latest thoughts and ideas from the education world…shall I go on?

If you’re like me, you probably spend plenty of time over the summer trying to learn at least one or two things you can take back to the classroom with you in the fall. Enter DEN Summer School! The best version of summer school there ever has been! Why? Because I get to learn stuff that’s much cooler than basket-weaving (no offense to you hard-core basket weavers), and I get to learn while wearing my jammies! (Hey, it’s 8:00 AM here on the West Coast for these webinars!)I’ve already signed up for several sessions; I’m particularly excited about Digital Storytelling Week. I’d really like to incorporate more video work into my classroom, especially since I now have my own Flip camera. I would encourage anyone to take advantage of these wonderful (free) learning sessions. You can find out more about DEN Summer School here: Summer School 2010 Did I mention it’s FREE?!! Don’t you just love the sound of the word “FREE”?!

Summer School begins August 2nd and runs every day through August 19th. The last week of Summer School focuses on Project-Based Learning. If you’re interested in learning as much as you possibly can about Project-Based Learning this summer, I hope you were able to sign up for Edutopia’s Project-Based Learning Summer Camp. They aren’t taking any new participants, but I’m sure we’ll be able to provide you with plenty of great information as the camp goes forward. Until then, be sure to check out the Edutopia website for some wonderful project-based learning resources!

See you at Summer School!
