Why do you think Edward Tulane wants to have wings like the crows?

In chapters 10-14 we begin to see a change in Edward.  How is Edward changing and why do you think this is happening? 

Keep in mind that I am not asking you about his appearance or how he looks on the outside. 

How is he changing on this inside and why?
