Exciting New Updates to Streaming!

On June 20th, Discovery Education rolled out a few upgrades to the site, that unfortunately didn’t go as smooth as planned. Needless to say our IT department has been working around the clock and through the weekend to resolve many of the site issues. I know that many of you are concerned about your “My Content” That should be back and running now and if you are still having issues, please notify me ASAP and I’ll work to resolve.

Many of you mentioned that the old site was great… and it was… but the best part is that we are adding so many wonderful things that thousands of teachers have been requesting for years such as a student center where your students can actually log on and create their own folders, download materials, etc. We’re adding 1,000 more videos to our base package! An upgrade to the builders to make it easier to assign things to students. So I wanted to take this opportunity to host a webinar and share the great things coming your way that will provide you with even more resources.

Below is the text to a blog, that I just posted on our national site… but I wanted to make sure each of you received a personal invitation. We appreciate your feedback, continue to monitor the situation, and are excited to share what’s in store.

Again, if you have additional questions and/or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me directly!

Discovery Education is excited to announce many new GREAT additions coming your way to streaming! This includes the long awaited and asked for Student Center where your students will have ability to log on and download media, better correlation with your state standards, more refined search, an update builders and my content, not to mention and additional 1,000 titles to our base package, among much more.

A Work Around…

We hear it all the time. “How about those closed captions for the mac?” Well, today you’re in luck! Thanks to Dennis Cowick of San Diego Unified for sharing these steps for a great work around to make quicktime play nicely with closed captioning! I tested it out and was jumping up and down for joy when I saw those closed captions playing nicely on the screen. I’ve attached the file with the instructions. You can also check out the Streaming A to Z blog where Matt Monjan has posted a power point with both the pc and mac instructions.
