I am brand new to blogging. This is my very first blog! I am an instructional technology resource teacher for Amherst County Public Schools in Amherst,
It’s funny how I came into the digital world. Over twenty years ago I had just completed my undergraduate degree. I was newly married and was taking a graduate class. My brother, who is six years younger than I, had just purchased a new Tandy. He didn‘t have money to buy a monitor. He went to the flea market and got an old black and white television to use as a monitor. He was very proud of his computer but to me, it looked like junk!
After much pleading, my brother convinced me to use his computer to type a paper for class; and with much skepticism, I attempted it. It didn‘t go over very well as I was use to a manual typewriter. Every time the cursor got to the edge of the screen, I hit return. I really fussed when I previewed my paper and saw that it was a huge mess! My brother tried to show me how to correct the alignment but I was trying to push him out of the way. With the two of us fighting over the computer, someone hit the wrong button and my entire paper was lost! I was furious and said very ugly things to my brother. Shame on me!
Anyway, after almost 25 years I have finally arrived in the digital world. It amuses me that teachers in my district with which I work, think of me as a techno-guru. I had a long hard journey to this place and I know I still have a lot to learn. The really funny thing is that now I am learning not from my baby brother, but often from my 17 year old son.

Melanie, welcome to the blogosphere! Sounds like it’s been a long twisted journey to arrive here
But, as we teachers know, it’s not always the destination that’s most important, rather the path you take ot get there.
Glad to have you here!
