We are at the mid-point of the first nine weeks. I have asked for help setting up individual accounts for students to the appropriate individual and have not heard back yet. I am not a district administrator for Discovery Education, so is there an easier way to have the students added when you teach all students in the building and have 18 sections of classes? Thanks for your help.
Tonight, I attended my first DEN LC Insider and it was hosted through WebEx. Scholastic uses this software for the book fair training workshops online as well. During the meeting, I signed up for the LC Edmodo group. Edmodo has been such an effective teaching platform this year so it was easy to add this group. Another thing that I needed to do was to create a wikispaces and request to join the LC wiki.
Our principal walked around delivering apples to the teachers today. This week Discovery Education has a special treat for us each day. It is a wonderful feeling to know that you are appreciated. Happy Teacher Appreciate Week to All!
One of the most helpful features with the Discovery Education Assignments is that you can elect to have a box for students to click when they have completed the assignment. You can have an e-mail sent to your account and it will provide the student name and the time. This lets you know if the students completed their homework for sure. It has been very helpful.
First session – Discovery Education Day of Discovery
In the digital storytelling, my partner and I had the challenge to summarize teaching in our current day into three words. We decided to go with:
Network Creative Sharing
This needed to be captured onto the I-pad recording device. We started the image to a creative book. Next came in a cell phone with Network typed and the creative on the book was the focus. Lastly, came in a piece of paper with sharing. We did not have a chance to see all of the group responses in the session. This should come later.
This concept of the 3 word lesson summarizes my reflection on the sessions.
There are tools that I have incorporating into instruction and pleased with: Glogster Edu, Animoto, Photo Peach, Blabbarize, Voki
There are tools that I want work to incorporate: Google Lit Trip, Scribble Maps, Kizoa, Voice Thread
And also tools that I need an I-Pad to begin to try incorporation: Puppet Pals,Type Drawing, Night Sky, Comic Book, Strip Design, Toon-tastic, Edu-creations, Doodle buddy, splashtop, I-movie.
This was a nice event. Thank you Discovery Education!
I am in the fourth session of the Discovery Education Western PA Day of Discovery. The content focuses on creating new projects. I will add my favorite tools once this is all complete and I am back at home. So far everything is going very well.
I am very excited for The Western PA Day of Discovery 2012. This event takes place on
Saturday, March 31, 2012 from 8:30 AM to 3:00
in Harmony, PA. I have not been there before and I can’t wait to see all of the cool sessions, learn new skills and meet other educators who really care about improving instruction for their students.
After school I worked with another teacher on our presentation about technology tools. There’s so many that are effective that it is a more difficult process than we originally thought. This difficulty is actually exciting. It is time to select the best out of the best. What is that though?
In addition, this is the first blog post that I am adding here while actually knowing that I am adding a post. From August 2007 – March 2012 is a large span without any additions. I will have to work on imporving that situation.
Welcome to your new DEN blog! This is your first post. Edit or delete it, and then start blogging!
