Moodle
Over the summer, our school is installing a district-wide program: Moodle in the Classroom. This site, www.moodle.org, will allow different kinds of communication.I will not have a website until our training in August, but I would like to focus on writing skills by having the students comment to blogs that I post about activities or comment on podcasts of students reading their own writing. I am looking forward to this type of communication that will take my students inside and outside of the classroom.
Do other schools use similar classroom websites? Have you done an activity that you love and works well? One that did not? I would love to get some ideas about what to start with on my website when I create it. Let me know how you integrated this technology tool into your instruction.

Hi, Mary,
I’m happy to read and follow your blog. I’m just starting the Ph.D. or Ed.D in Education Technology and am very interested in technology used in the classroom.
Hi Mary,
Can’t wait to learn more about Moodle this Fall. I’m hoping we can load our core class information on it for our students to access. This seems especially applicable to our Social Studies Curriculum, since we will all be reviewing and working on it from ’scratch’ anyway.

Still not a big Moodle fan. I know a lot of schools use it because it is free. At Credenda, (www.credenda.net) our virtual high school, we have used WebCT, and now Angel LMS. I think we will be moving to Desire2Learn after Christmas, because we just love the features that it has built into it. Moodle is okay, but it’s missing some real educational elements, and almost requires a full-time person on staff to manage it. So I guess I look at it as you could pay the fee up front and get the support, or hire a staff member and pay their salary to do all the work.
Hi Mary. This looks promising. I am anxious to see how you use it. I will be taking courses to learn how to use our new interactive white boards soon. I’ll keep up to see how this progresses for you and to learn from your experiences with it. Thanks!
