Back to School 2009 events

I look forward to training the two new teachers at my school this year. I will also provide refreshers to help returning teachers connect ”Learning Focused Strategies” lessons with the embedded Discovery Streaming video and clip art resources.

FETC Virtual Conference – We were there too

My students and I stayed late yesterday to participate with the first FETC Virtual Conference. They liked the interactive exhibit hall and live chat features. I appreciated being able to facilitate their learning and not having to travel with limited budgets to feel connected with the presenters and exhibitors. Thanks again for maximizing  authentic learning with my students.

FETC 2009

I will be attending FETC 2009 on Thursday and Friday. I wish I was able to afford to stay Saturday too.  Learning new things about best practices and research based technology will be exciting . Glad that Discovery Education is supporting FETC even in weak economic times as well as providing online professional development for those educators that can not be released to attend this year.

Thank you New York Times and Florida Humanities Council

The teacher training offered in Lakeland, FL today is great. I learned so much more about ethics and journalism. I plan to use Discovery Streaming to reinforce the importance of crediting primary sources and properly citing work in print and digital formats with all my students. Thank you for providing an interactive and informative session about how journalist connect with their readers with emerging technologies such as blogs, social networking, and  video formats along with print media. I appreciate my school district for investing in on going training and continued use of Discovery Streaming even when budgets get limited and resources scarce. http://www.flickr.com/photos/lakelandlocal/2570500580/in/photostream/

DE Streaming writing extension ideas

Have you shared with your teachers the newer features of “Assignment Builder” and the writing prompt features for ELL/ESOL/ESE as well as general educators ? Compass Odyssey’s Writer program works well with the visuals and prompts from DE STreaming l to build prior background.  We have also used student’s e-mal accounts to send and receive writing assignments and feedback.  We, students and teachers,  are also begining ot use Kidspiration and the interactive white boards to brainstorm and summarize content taughts or presenting via DE Streaminging.

Statewide testing – Discovery Education has helped prepare us

My school is in the process of completing statewide testing and assessments. Having DE Streaming and assignment builder have helped prepare our students to do well on science, math and reading portions of the FCAT.

They students can visualize concepts that tend to be abstract using the live video and animations DE Streaming provides. The student also recall assignment questions that stretch their minds and require extended responses. Thanks again for sharing your great teaching and learning ideas with my students and school.

FETC 2008

Good to share during the Discovery Education’s FETC’s Pre – Conference event. I learned new ways of enriching the learning of all the students at my school. The time to network and exchange ideas was wonderful. Thanks again for providing the ice breaker and opportunities to preview upcoming resources that will be available in the near future.  Keynote Opening session with Jeff Corwin was awesome. Look forward to explore the other offerings Discovery Education and its partners has in the various concurrent sessions and vendor’s areas during the remainder of FETC 2008.
