Have You “Eyed” the Eye-Project?

It’s nice to know that sometimes good ole-fashioned surfin’ can still bring you to some really interesting places on the web…

Recently (ok, it was actually back in December, but I’m a little bit behind in my posting- give a girl a break :) ), I found the Eye-Project with immediately reminded me of Mosaic on steroids! What a truly collaborative effort! I’m really glad I stuck with the site after my initial impression left me saying, “What the ‘heck’ is this?” - (that’s the PG version)

Check it out & let me know what you think!

Show Off Your Science Savvy!

With WIRED SCIENCE and PBS!

www.pbs.org/kcet/wiredscience/education/

PBS and its newest series, WIRED SCIENCE, are hosting an online student video contest with a first prize of $2,000!

Help your students make a short video exploring a cool scientific principle and they could be featured on the WIRED SCIENCE Web site! The video topic can be anything - a math formula, a chemistry equation, a law of physics - as long as it’s science-related. In the spirit of the show, judges are looking for creativity. Be original. Make us laugh. Excite us. And, of course, remember to be safe. The top 20 finalist videos will be posted to pbs.org and in the Apple Student Gallery.

Entries are due April 1, 2008 and winners will be announced May 17, 2008.

For more information and instructions on how to enter, visit www.pbs.org/kcet/wiredscience/education/student-video-contest.

Calling All Science Teachers-

Thanks to Cool Cat Teacher for the following post!

If you’re looking for a motivating project and you teach science –
this flu flux contest opens up September 15th - October 28th and has
you creating videos about how people get the flu and how to prevent it
in three categories: kids and the flu, sports and the flu, and flu in
the workplace.

This would make a meaningful digital storytelling - science cross curricular project!

Flu Safety Video Contest

ShiftHappens

Have you seen Karl Fisch’s movie "Did You Know"? Well, recently, Jeff Brenman updated it a bit and converted it into a powerpoint presentation which just won the Best Presentation in the World award from Slideshare.net.  Well Done!!

Jeff gave me permission to tweek his work a little bit & turn it back into a movie again. I wanted to share it with you because I think it’s a great example (not my actual movie, but the story behind it) of how web 2.0 technology is allowing us all to share ideas and collaborate with people that we otherwise would never even have known existed!  Exactly what the DEN is all about, right? :)
