Embed DE Streaming into SmartNotebook

Ok, I love my SMART board. I love my Discovery Education Streaming Videos. Putting them together makes for a powerful lesson. But, in order to embed streaming videos directly into Notebook files they need to be converted into Flash video. (We all know that conversion tools can be time consuming and sometimes difficult.) But thanks to a post on the SMART Exchange it is as easy as click and drag.

Start by downloading the free Riva Encoder . Then the next time you’d like to embed a Streaming video into your Notebook lesson, simply drag it in. The Encoder does the rest!

Thanks to Kellie English from Kankakee School District 111 for sharing this awesome discovery!

Real Life Meet ups for the Virtual Conference

While I’m sure you already know about the DEN virtual conference that is taking place on October 25th, you should also know that the NY DEN is holding two face to face sessions in New York on the very same day. One event is in the town of Poughkeepsie and the other is in Scarsdale.

We would love for YOU, our New York DEN members and YOUR FRIENDS to come out and join us.

You don’t need to be a DEN STAR to participate, nor do you need to have a lot of technology experience.

You just need to show up and be ready for a good time with your NY DEN friends.

Here is the schedule of the virtual sessions for the day, and here is where you should register.

*Even if you’re not attending one of our f2f events, please be sure to register as a virtual participant in the drop down menu.

The virtual conference in Scarsdale will be held from 8:30 am - 11:30 am at the Panera’s on Central Park Avenue. You can click here for directions.

The virtual conference event in the town of Poughkeepsie will be held from 11:00 am - 2:00 pm at the Panera’s on Route 9 across from the Galleria Mall. Click here for directions.

Both events have access to free wifi. If you have a laptop with wireless, please bring it with you. If you don’t have a laptop, the presenters will and they are willing to share. We’re going to use our tech tools to connect with educators from all over the country during this “unique” professional development experience. Hope to see you there!

Reminder: Here is the schedule of the virtual sessions for the day, and here is where you should register.

3rd Annual DEN Stream-a-thon

Share the latest in digital storytelling techniques with your colleagues by inviting them over to your classroom to watch the Stream-a-thon with you.

Attend for an hour or spend the entire day with the DEN! Make the best of this free professional development event by attending and inviting all your teacher, librarian and I.T. friends!
