VoiceThread and the NY Public Library

VoiceThread has some exciting news about a new feature.

untitled-1.jpg “Over 700,000 historical images from The New York Public Library’s Digital Gallery are now freely and instantly available whenever you’re creating a VoiceThread. The new Media Browser allows you to search or browse these primary source materials - maps, photos, drawings, paintings, posters and more, and then import them directly into any VoiceThread. Links back to the original location of the images on the web are automatically inserted to make citing and attribution easier for you and your students.”  You can find this new feature here.

For those of you not familiar with VoiceThread, it is a fabulous tool that enables collaboration through voice, video, and/or text on any topic you might desire.  Using images from Discovery Streaming, the Internet, student created, and now The New York Public Library, you can create some amazing learning activities for your classroom.

Do you have a great idea for a 20 minute presentation?  The K-12 Online Conference is looking for presenters.  Let’s show them how great the DEN really is!  You have until August 16th to submit your proposal so get them in now.

The conference organizers are also looking for people to help put the whole thing together.  No experience is required.  Just some great enthusiasm and a bit of time.  I know all our DEN members have plenty of enthusiasm!  Click here for more information.

This is a valuable conference opportunity.  Let’s get excited!

Adventures in Frames

Re-posted from the DEN Blog:

Thanks to our good friends over at Tech4Learning, there are STARs aplenty who received free copies of Frames to use in the classroom.  However, what good is a piece of software if you don’t know how to use it?  They have graciously offered to host a webinar to help show you tips and tricks for using Frames with your students!

Creating animated movies and digital stories is a fantastic way to engage students in the curriculum. Learn how students can use the integrated drawing tools in Frames to illustrate their own stories, tell digital stories, and create animated Flash® movies.

The webinar will be May 28th at 4:30EST.  To register, click here.

The Ypulse 2009 Totally Wired Teacher Award (sponsored by Dell) will honor a public school teacher from grades 3 to12 who is successfully using technology (the internet/social media, mobile technology, gaming) in the classroom. The award is inspired by Ypulse founder Anastasia Goodstein’s book, Totally Wired: What Teens & Tweens Are Really Doing Online, and the challenges she observed around integrating technology into public school classrooms.
