A Conference in Pajamas
The following is written from guest blogger
I am a technology nut! I love to learn, use, and discover new things in the area of technology. So, I recently attending the Discovery Educators Virtual Conference…in my pajamas. I woke up ten minutes before it started and logged on to check it out. As soon as I got onto WebEx I saw the schedule and listened to the opening presentation, and I knew this conference was going to be super-cool. Many topics were discussed during this 9 am to 3 pm conference, such as: Google Earth, RTI, the Discovery Educators Network, and powerpoint. Countless online resources were mentioned and demonstrated. I was jotting down websites on index cards, checking email, watching shared desktop presentations, and doing laundry all at the same time. It was ADHD heaven. If I wasn’t taking notes, then I was surfing to the newly discovered online resources. To say the least I was inspired! I couldn’t wait to play and create with these new tools. So over the remainder of the weekend I played. The first site I joined was www.glogster.com/edu. A glog is an online poster. You can upload videos, pictures, and link to other web addresses. I’ve created two glogs on an upcoming unit on landforms.
Next I joined www.voki.com. This site allows you to create custom avatars that seem to come to life with a text-to-speech option. You can also record yourself to speak for your avatar.
I’ve been creating and glogging all week. I haven’t used any of my creations yet, I’ll get to them next week when we start landforms.
