Yesterday I was given the honor of “Artist of the Month” at the Chippewa Valley Montessori School. I presented my love stained glass and my skills at creating kaleidoscopes. My presentation began with a discussion of how early activities like coloring with my mother led me to look at life from the eye of an artist. I shared my interest in the artwork of Andy Worhal as seen in some of these images: http://tinyurl.com/cgqbmn His work using everyday images was inspirational in my use of everyday found items such as buttons, marbles, rocks and ribbons in the optic cells of my kaleidoscopes. I shared a Power Point presentation that showed the step-by-step process of how I make my works of art. I enjoyed the children and their responses and questions. They were very well behaved and it was a pleasure to be a guest at their school. The staff videotaped the presentation to share with parents and other interested family members. I was given a school t-shirt as a memento of the day.
