Our school is celebrating Italian Heritage Month. I have found a video on Discovery Streaming regarding the life and work of Leonardo DaVinci. The kids have loved this video. The students loved learning how the “Last Supper” was peeling but he managed to get it to stay preserved. The students didn’t even want to go to lunch, they were so engrossed in the program.
Whenever I tell them we are going to see a streaming video they become so excited. And I find them discussing the videos later amongst themselves, as well as to me, their art teacher.

The educational videos from Discovery have been a small part of my Art Curriculum. Last year, my students learned about the artwork of Norman Rockwell. After exploring pieces of art we watched the video on Norman Rockwell.
During a project, students created peaceful coloring books. As a class we viewed a video on lines and drawing. Students were introduced to concepts such as perspective and motion.
This year, I intend to integrate more Discovery products into my teaching. As we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month students were allowed to create their artwork while watching/listening to “Too Many Tomales”.
Check back to see what else we are doing in Art Class!
