Incorporating Web 2.0 widgets into your builder
There are hundreds of widgets that you can find.
Take advantage of these free tools to add another dimension to your builder
We’re going to look at four.
First Things First – Creating a Builder Tool

*Creating a Writing Prompt
Log into www.discoveryeducation.com
Click on the “Teacher Center” link

Click on the Writing Prompt Icon

Enter a keyword and choose “image,” “clip art,” “full video,” or “video segment.”
Select up to three assets (images, clip art and/or video) and then click on the “Add” button

Review and/or modify your selections and customize your border size

Enter the Writing part of your Writing Prompt

2,000 character maximum
Add code from Youtube, Animoto, Voicethread and more!
Go to any Web 2.0 page (i.e. youtube) and copy the embed code.
Click on the HTML button inside the Builder
Paste code
Click on the Update button
Click on the save and continue button
Preview your work
Assign Your Work
Viewing The Results
Go back to My Content and click on your folder/writing prompt, etc.
Pull down the drop down menu next to your prompt
Select Grade Book and click on the Go button
Click on your prompt to see the date completed, status, and to view the prompt response (grade)

*Creating an Interactive Quiz
(No way to upload to a clicker system yet)
Log into www.discoveryeducation.com
Click on the “Teacher Center” link

Click on the Quiz Builder Icon

Fill out any field marked by a *
Select where you would like to save (bookmark) your quiz
A folder that you’ve already created (Save to Existing Folder)

Or create a new folder
Note that this folder must live in the My Content folder or another folder that has already been created

Fill in all of the boxes and check the Display to Students Box
Choose your Quiz Options
Click on the Save/continue button

Place a check mark next to anything that you would like to add
Click on the Add button

The content that you selected shows up in the
My Quiz Materials Box

Snazz it up with slideshare.net
Slideshare.net is a free Web 2.0 application that lets you upload and search for PowerPoint presentations, share them, and embed them into the “Builders.”
Inserting Into Your Quiz
Go to any Web 2.0 page (i.e. slidehare.net) and copy the embed code.
Click on the HTML button inside the Builder
Paste code
Click on the Update button
Click on the save and continue button

Great way to assess value of student created presentation (open book quiz)
Viewing The Results
Go back to My Content and click on your folder/quiz, etc.
Pull down the drop down menu next to your prompt
Select Grade Book and click on the Go button
Click on your quiz to see the date completed, grades, and to view the student responses (grades)

Enter in your instructions, objectives and teacher notes (for your eyes only) and then click on the save/continue button

Add in your links, give them some description and click on the Add a Web Link button
Add Material Instructions (optional)
For each asset that you choose (videos, websites, etc) you can add individual instruction.
Click on the Continue button
