DEN Jumping

This MUST be a record for me.  Every time I check my e-mail there’s something else there that warrants a post! LOL

But this one is truly to good to miss!  We’ve discovered a new, fun use for the new DEN in SL HQ!  Fly to the top of the tower and get a gift that will help you enjoy the new sport, DEN jumping!

Don’t know about you, but I’m putting off reading the rest of my e-mails for now and heading on over to DEN in SL to try my hand at DEN Jumping.  This is a warning guys!  Stay away from the perimeter of the building.  I’m sure I’l ‘SPLAT’ a few times before getting the hang of it! LOL

Can’t Get Enough of Second Life?

Just when I ‘think’ I’ve got my time in-world under control, Celestia shoots me an e-mail about the ability to get in-world with my cellphone.  Oh dear…Guess it’s lucky for me that I live in an area full of ‘dead zones’…LOL

For those who want their ‘fix on the go’, head on over to Vollee to find out more.  But don’t come back to me about how much time you are now spending in-world…I’m ONLY the messenger!

Gentle Reminder - June 11th

The one, the ONLY Demb Oh will be the presenter at this week’s Wednesday Workshop.

The Topic:  iStream, uStream, Live Streaming In SecondLife

The Place:  DEN in SL of course!

The Time:  5 p.m. SLT (8 p.m. EST)

One of the biggest trends in Web 2.0 is live video streaming.  From uStream to Operator 11 to Seesmic to Qik, it is becoming easier and easier to broadcast yourself live to the masses.  So what about Second Life?  How can Live Video streaming be incorporated into SL and what can it be used for?  First learn practical ways to bring live video in-world and then let’s see just how far along the cutting edge we can surf!  Come find out from Demb Oh!

Hope to see everyone there!

Another Podcast

That’s right folks!  DEN in SL has been mentioned in yet another podcast.  As part of the Second Life ™ blog, the post is entitled Inside the Lab Podcast, a Discussion on Education in Second Life.  Pathfinder and Claudia (don’t you just love her headpiece?LOL) Linden discuss some of the exciting things happening in education in SL.  Scroll down to get a copy of the transcript, or you can now download the podcast from iTunes as of yesterday.

It’s a Wrap - DE Assignment Builder

Our Wednesday Workshop featured STAR DEN Educator, Cal Kjeller discussing DE Assignment Builder.  WOW!  What a fabulous workshop!  I was particularly impressed by Cal’s ability to multi-task so seamlessly — progressing through the slides, while inserting appropriate teleprompt style info in the chat window and still managing to respond to questions from the audience.  All of this AND a good natured, relaxed presence while doing so.  Kudos Cal for a job well done.

If you missed the workshop, don’t worry, Cal has shared his notecard with the Google Group and it’s available here.  And the Slideshare of his presentation is available here

I look forward to many more presentations by Cal in the near future (HINT!  HINT!  LOL).

To NECC or Not To NECC?

Regardless, you’re going to want to consider joining the SL NECC Ning group at

Yup….that’s it for the post……Must be a record for me!

Never a Dull Moment at DEN in SL

Next time you visit the DEN in SL and see a DEN Guide, thank them for all that they do.  They volunteer their time to make sure that if educators stop by there is someone there to greet them, or answer their question, or provide direction and they are on hand to help out during our workshop session.  These guides are friendly and outgoing and the DEN in SL LC is VERY lucky to have them make DEN in SL an even better place to go to in Second Life.  Now mind you, there are times when things are a little slow, but you can count on the DEN Guides to make the best of it….and I thought I’d share some of the antics these DEN Guides can get themselves into…..

I think it all began when Unklar created a box that distributes notecards.  I happened on it one evening, Unklar happened to be hanging (uh….yup, I believe he was ’sleeping’ — AGAIN!LOL) around, and some unsuspecting soul was checking out EduIsland II.  I thought it would be fun to ’sit’ on the box.  That is until I realized I could be IN the box….well, you can only imagine what happened next!LOL  I called Unklar over to join me, and then I relentlessly IMed the unsuspecting avatar to do the same (and good sport that he was he joined us).  Below is a snapshot I took.

May 20_004

Guess Unklar decided to break some sort of SL record for cramming a box with avatars and here are some shots of Unklar’s attempt to break the record.

box5

box4

I count six avatars in the box….So, next time you’re at the DEN in SL, if you happen to see Unklar’s box, grab some avatars and see how many of you can fit in the box, take a snapshot, and send me a copy….Let’s see if you can break the record!

Oh, and if you think you’d like to be a DEN Guide (and let’s face it, after seeing the fun that they have, why wouldn’t you?), please either IM Beth Kohnke in-world or e-mail Beth at bknittle@gmail.com

And if you’re trying to break the record, do me a favor…send me an IM so I can join you!
