If you haven’t been in Second Life lately, you’re in for a pleasant surprise — Second Life just got a ‘facelift’. I suggest you head on over and see for yourself, but if you want to find out what has changed, head on over to the Second Life blog. I think you’ll be pleased with the changes. In fact, why don’t you share your favorite ‘lift’ in the Comments section below.
As some of you might know, the DEN in SL is situated on one of the EduIslands. What you might not know is that we have an absolutely wonderful and fabulous ‘landlord’, Fleet — if you’ve attended one of our major galas you might have seen him around, he’s that adorable squirrel avatar. ANYWAYS……………………. I just got an e-mail from him, with an offer that can’t be refused. I quickly e-mailed him to see if I could post the information to the blog and he graciously granted permission. NOTE: Special Deal for DEN in SL members - two members can share one apartment!!! WOOHOO!!!
To encourage new educators into Second Life whilst they have some time on their hands, we are launching a summer promotion. For the next two months, from now until mid September, we will be offering educators new to SL a limited number of luxury apartments with 250 prim allowances on a first come, first served basis. The cost? Free! Zero! Zip! Zilch!
When September arrives, the apartment tenants will have the option of upgrading to a paid presence elsewhere on the Eduislands, with the usual affordable weekly-payment plans available to them.
We have again used the type of luxury apartments that have served the Eduislands so well in the past for this promotion. An internal image of the apartment:

We’ve placed the tower on the edge of Eduisland 3, directly behind Teacher Networking Center, so that new teachers can get the easy access to support that they need.

Hair Fair Landmarks
Yes sometimes it all boils down to great hair. The link above takes you to a blog I read and the author has gracioulsy made it easy to visit many if not all of the hair designers present at the Hair Fair. If you find the links useful make sure you comment on THEIR blog and say thank you.
The DEN would like you help in finding out more about how the DEN is impacting student learning and professional growth.
So if you have a minute (and I’m sure we can all find a minute in our busy lives), please fill out the survey. You can read the full blog post here.
No, it’s not a tech toy! LOL It’s the revised link to the New DEN in SL HQs. You can also find it along the top tab of this blog.

Make sure to save this as a Landmark once you’re inworld!
Hope to see all of you tonight at *NOTE: NEW TIME CHANGE* at 6 p.m. SLT (8 p.m. CST, 9 p.m EST) for Lor’s presentation digital citizenship.
And don’t forget! The official ribbon-cutting ceremony will be this Friday at 5 p.m. SLT (7 p.m. CST, 8 p.m. EST).
That’s right folks. DEN in SL has finally joined the social networking craze. It’s official: DEN in SL is on Twitter.
The idea was actually ‘borrowed’ from Neene on the New York LC. She started with @NYDENLC. Hey, if it’s good enough for the Big Apple, it’s good enough for SL! No sooner had I read about NY DEN’s Twitter plunge I had a message to the SL LC, and the rest is, well, ‘Tw’istory! LOL
So if you haven’t yet been bombarded with RT (re-tweets), let me share with you that you can follow the antics of the DEN in SL by following SLDENLC. If you want to get our attention you can always add at the beginning of your Tweet ‘@SLDENLC’. Yes, folks, that would be @SLDENLC. And as Daniel Pink was heard saying in his Keynote at PETE&C — the key to an effective presentation is repetition, repetition, repetition. So one last time — if you’re on Twitter, please consider following @SLDENLC.
Thank you.
Brought to you by @SLDENLC
You know, I don’t care what others say — Twitter is great! How else would I have found out (literally just seconds ago!) about a Quick Start Guide to Second Life ™? Thanks to @torley’s (BTW, if you are on Twitter and in Second Life you REALLY, REALLY, REALLY ought to consider following @torley!) tweet, here’s the link to the seven page pdf file.
Enjoy! (and thanks again @torley!)
Looks like the DEN in SL blog is in the running again over at Scott’s BlogHut on ISTE. We’be got some fierce competition this month so we would like to encourage all of you to get out and vote for the DEN in SL blog (shameless self-promotion I know, but heh, if I can’t do it, who can? LOL). Please head on over to Scott’s blog to read more about this month’s competition. [Laelia’s ‘real life’ avatar is in the midst of applying Aloe with lanacaine to the front of her legs — seems the sun on Marco Island was a little too strong — and apparently she was unable to control those ‘Environmental Settings’! LOL]
The Lindens are always putting new things in the library section of your inventory. This time it’s some great freebies from designers Here is a picture of where to look after opening your inventory. You can click the here to see the large size. Have fun trying on a new look!

This MUST be a record for me. Every time I check my e-mail there’s something else there that warrants a post! LOL
But this one is truly to good to miss! We’ve discovered a new, fun use for the new DEN in SL HQ! Fly to the top of the tower and get a gift that will help you enjoy the new sport, DEN jumping!
Don’t know about you, but I’m putting off reading the rest of my e-mails for now and heading on over to DEN in SL to try my hand at DEN Jumping. This is a warning guys! Stay away from the perimeter of the building. I’m sure I’l ‘SPLAT’ a few times before getting the hang of it! LOL
