From DEN blog… DEN Spring Training 2008

DEN Spring Training is back! This year the DEN coaches are scouting talent for the All-STAR team as well as looking for some new prospects to join the DEN squad. You have a couple ways to impress the coaches during DEN Spring Training and earn some DEN gear.

Renegotiate Your Contract
Every year STAR Discovery Educators are asked to report at least two events they have conducted in the past school year in order to have their contracts renewed for the following season (i.e., maintain STAR status for next school year). Give your agent some additional leverage to land you a big contract by reporting more than two events.

water bottleAny STAR DE who reports at least three events for the time period of September 1, 2007 through June 6, 2008 will receive a DEN Water Bottle as a signing bonus.

Recruit a Rookie
We’re always looking for new prospects who can throw a 90 mph fastball or embed a DE streaming video into PowerPoint. If you help us find a rookie sensation, we’ll hook you up with some new DEN gear.

den teeAny STAR DE who recruits a new STAR Discovery Educator before June 6, 2008 will receive a DEN baseball jersey. Note: The STAR DE you recruit must have his/her contract officially signed by June 6, 2008 (i.e., he/she must complete all parts of the application process by June 6).

Help Your Region Win the Pennant
Your DEN Account Managers are looking to you to help them bring home the pennant for your region. The DEN Manager whose region has the most new STAR recruits during DEN Spring Training will win the coveted Discovery Educator Network Louisville Slugger straight from the factory in Kentucky.

NECC DEN podcast

Img_0787_2 NECC is over and I am still thinking and reflecting about the conference. Last night I felt like a rock star. I saw my name on iTunes… I had to do the happy dance for the true geek that I am. While in Atlanta, Steve Dembo invited me and, FL DEN member, Tom Turner to be a part of a podcast for Conference Connections. This was a lot of fun. It was just a short podcast, about 10 minutes, but I truly felt like I arrived to be sitting in a room with Steve Dembo and Tim Wilson.  Take a listen. We talked about the DEN, so I have to say I wasn’t short on words. :) The DEN has given me so many wonderful opportunities and this was one of those moments in life that makes me giggle with geeky happiness. (ok, I am a girl. I can’t help it.)

NECC South Carolina is representin’!

The first day of the convention has been incredible. This year, the movement to Web 2.0 is making an impact. There are so many free tools available to be used in the classroom. Our next question is how do we get the firewall a little more open in some of our districts?

Img_0749Today I ran in to many of our SC DEN members around the Discovery both. There is a big contingency from Lexington 1. I also met a couple Richland Two folks as well as the infamous Chris Craft of Lexington 5. Here I am with Amy Dent and Patty Tucker of Lex 1.

Discovery Education hosted a STAR dinner for us tonight to celebrate the 2nd birthday of the DEN. There were at least 200 DEN members from across the country present. The dinner was at Azio and, the SC events coordinator, Donna Teuber (now) of Richland Two was there.

If you are in Atlanta and you want to blog about your time at NECC PLEASE email me or Beth to post your blog entry.

msansonetti@richlandone.org or ethrailkill@richlandone.org

Enjoy the conference! I have so much to tell you and I will when I start to digest all I am learning and gathering.
