GAETC - Georgia Educational Technology Conference

You Are There: Primary Sources Can Take Your Students Back in Time!

Be an eyewitness to history when using free online primary sources available from the digital collections of the Library of Congress, the Digital Library of Georgia, and Discovery Streaming. Listen to former slaves tell their own stories in their own voice. Read the diary of a young soldier who marched with Sherman through Georgia. Study a detailed map of Andersonville Prison hand drawn by a prisoner of war. Read the Gettysburg Address written in Lincoln’s own hand. Watch immigrants unloading at Ellis Island. Examine the photographs and papers of suffragettes who blazed the way for women’s rights. Teaching with primary sources is the perfect complement to learning about every aspect of our heritage, a powerful tool to make history come alive!

During this 60 minute session, learn about the following: embedding video clips into mimio lessons, using screen clippings to incorporate high quality Discovery Education streaming content, embedding audio clips into existing mimio lessons, using flash animation to add feedback to lessons and quizzes and importing existing Discovery Education streaming files and lesson materials directly into mimio Notebook Examples of multimedia rich lessons and resources in all subject areas are provided to participants. Target audience includes technology integration specialists, teacher educators, teachers, staff developers, and library media specialists. Experience a full school day of lesson creation during this one hour presentation.

Making Waves with Technology- Tech Camp

Participants will get an opportunity to hear how we have setup our tech camps over the last 10 years. We will share pictures and videos of our students in action. We will share ideas on class projects, video conferences and ways to use lots of technology tools such as cameras, laptops, and Neo2 keyboards. We will have some hands on opportunities with the Neo2 responder. Teachers will share web pages, software ideas and templates that they used in the classroom with their students and show examples of finished projects. Our participants will walk away with proven activities, links to great video conference vendors and also connection to us as they begin setting up their own tech camp. We will share Discovery streaming and Elementary science used with our smart board.

    I am presenting with other Star DEN teachers at Orange County Computer Using Educator Tech Fest in Orange, CA. I will be presenting on “Thinking Outside the Slide” Non-Linear PowerPoint Interactive Curriculum lessons. I am looking forward to the conference tomorrow. January 23, 2010. Time to PowerUp the Classroom!!!
