These are my links for March 30th through March 31st:
- Absolute Michigan - Michigan News, Links - Absolute Michigan has thousands of Michigan-only links, news, photos, video and features - we are Michigan’s most dynamic resource.
- ArtisanCam - Activities - Super Action Comic Maker - The website is divided into the Artists Zone, which contains classroom-based activities and the Activity Zone, which is full of games and fun interactive activities, designed to encourage children to continue their learning at home.
- For Teachers (Library of Congress) - Library of Congress resources for teachers. The Library’s mission is to make its resources available and useful to the Congress and the American people and to sustain and preserve a universal collection of knowledge and creativity for future generations. The Office of the Librarian is tasked to set policy and to direct and support programs and activities to accomplish the Library’s mission.
- 50 Excellent Image Galleries You Can Use Today - Nettuts - Here are 50 of our favorite free image galleries that you can quickly plug into a design. They’ve been built with everything from CakePHP to jQuery to Ruby on Rails. A shout-out to all the developers involved in sharing their work with the community!
- Behold | Search High Quality Flickr Images - BeholdTM is a search engine for high-quality Flickr images. It aims to answer your queries based on what is inside the images — at the pixel level. It offers a completely new way to search for images, using techniques of computer vision. It is different to standard image search engines, such as Flickr or Google, because those search through images using only image tags and filenames.
- Yodio - Add voice to photos - Your voice is unique and personal?just like your stories. Use Yodio to add your stories to your photos or presentations, and share these narrated photos with your friends and colleagues.
- WTT - We The Teachers - WetheTeachers sprung out of a hypothetical idea that Nate and Amy Chambers had in the fall of 2005. After getting frustrated from fruitless searches for lesson plans and ideas, Amy wondered why there were so few websites that effectively catered to teachers. There is a lot of information, but little is organized. Even worse, many times the resources you need are only available with a yearly fee.

Special Interest Group (SIG) Elementary Education
It’s been a busy week leading up to Spring Break. Getting back to my experiences at the 33rd annual MACUL conference.
I enjoyed meeting up with many teachers I have been following on Twitter/Plurk. (@mrlosik, @glo, @bcgeek). It was a great way to network and share face to face new technologies people have been using in the classroom. I learned about a few new web goodies there, too. Xtranormal is a great site to make text to video clips. It is a great way to introduce story telling to students. Secret Builders is a unique virtual world, geared towards Kindergarten through Eighth grade crowd. The Utah Education Network - UEN interactives was also mentioned. Michigan is working on it’s own version of organizing curicular websites through MeL and MORE.
How to create lessons that require higher-order thinking from students using Google Tools, Moodle (Blackboard), Wikis and Blogs. Check out the Google Site for Goomoodleikiog.

- Pupils to study Twitter and blogs in primary shake-up | Education | The Guardian - children to leave primary school familiar with blogging, podcasts, Wikipedia and Twitter as sources of information and forms of communication. - Seek ?n Spell - A Real-Time GPS-Based Word Building Competition | Apple iPhone School - Seek ?n Spell is a, ?a real-time GPS-based word building competition.? Your iPhone?s screen displays where each letter is located and then you must run (or walk) to that location in order to obtain the letter. You want to collect letters that will create the longest word?think real life Scrabble. To get a true feel of the application you will want to check out the demo video below.

Research Without Copying: Using Technology to Increase Higher Level Thinking
This session focused on reasons students copy, ranging from getting better grades to not fully understanding what it is the teacher wants them to do. The activities presented involved students being able to choose how they wanted to present their information.
The Tech4Learning software, Pixie and Frames were used in the sample projects. The handout provided sample templates to use across the curriculum and provides great idea starters for teachers. Also, be sure to check out Elizabeth Allen’s links on Carkenord Elementary’s Media Center webpage.
