We are living in exciting times. Times where you can share your most inane thoughts in an instant. Take my morning for example. I walked into the grocery store desperately in need of caffeine.

Hold me now, oh, oh, hold my heart…

Thompson Twins wafting through the air. Instantly, I grab my cell phone and send a text to update my Facebook status.

By the time I got to work, I had two friend comments. This is cool, but what if I could share that moment visually. What if I stood in the cooler section recording the sights and sounds and was able to share that with my friends, family, the world?!?

Of course, you can do this, but what is the best way. I’m going to try two examles here. First, a video created by my daughter, using only Windows Movie Maker.

Now, a video using Splash Cast Media. Higher production quality, but guess which one I’d watch 75 times!

Add Chuck to your page

Now, the test. Which embedding tool works better?

Wow. Today was cuh-razy. Not only did we have an Instructional Technology teacher leader meeting. We held this meeting in Elluminate. Now if you don’t know what Elluminate is, don’t worry, neither did I until a year ago. Now, however, I am a seasoned Ellumnati. Ok, maybe not, but I have presented using Elluminate.

The really nice thing about Elluminate is that you can do it from ANYwhere. My teammates were at the Resource Center, our office. I was at home. Our teacher leaders where spread out over our 50 schools, some were even at home. Because of our license, we had to do two sessions, which is tough if you’re presenting in both, as I was. It meant two pair of headphones, one meeting in each ear, but for attendees, it was painless.

We have used Discovery Education streaming since the fall of 2004, always frustrated by the steps it takes to share content created by our teachers or our students. Finally, this fall we rolled out MediaShare. Actually we’ve kind of inched out with MediaShare, and today’s presentation was the first widespread exposure. I think that once we show people how easy it is, we will finally be able to stop sharing weekly bulletin videos on that video site that everyone uses, but shall remain nameless.

We hope to roll MediaShare AND Elluminate out in bigger fashion next year. Now, cross your fingers and send your donations to the Lake Washington School District c/o Keep Professional Development Alive Fund.
