VocabularySpellingCity is amazing! I have a Premium Membership so I assign my class certain activities to do each night for homework and if I need to differentiate instruction for a specific child it is not a problem. My students never complain about doing spelling homework and that makes me very happy. They really like Unscramble, hangmouse (hangman) and their favorite is SpeedySpeller (Premium Membership).

Time magazines article How to Bring Our Schools Out of the 20th Century December 18 2006 says that kids are global citizens now even in small town America and they must learn to act that way. There is a debate about how to accomplish this goal in schools but certainly it is important to help students gain a wider perspective of human history and culture.

This is very neat! I did a couple submissions and got Dan Brown (the DaVinci Code) and Nabokov who's first language is Russian! I do like Nabokov, but I've never read The DaVinci Code-- maybe I should give it a try. :)

Robin, very funny! We could sit and have some laughs over middle school stories. I'm teaching 7th and 8th graders and I can relate to your post. I get similar comments, but I also get the same joys you get from teaching this delightful age group!
Blessings,
Denise

Hello Robin,
We would like to suggest a complimentary website that brings mainstream news written specifically for children. Please take a look at Youngzine @ www.youngzine.com. Thanks!

What a great story! It's fun to get a glimpse into your classroom. It's funny that they thought to do that so quickly. It sounds like you have a great relationship with your students.

Great idea, Robin. I was surprised to hear the great voice on you Voki in your post. That is inspiring me to try this in my 7th grade literature class. So many ideas! Thanks for sharing. Denise

I recently created a Web 2.0 app you might be interested in -- it's called Quicklyst, and it's for taking notes. Let me know what you think

Give memorize.com a shot as well. It lets you add headings, introductory descriptions, and images to your pages in addition to just facts, letting you add more background information and variety to the material you create.
