Looking for a way to get something for nothing? OK, maybe that’s a bit much. You actually have to do something to get these items from the DEN. But, they do come to you free!
First, if you log into your DEN account and update your information (even if it hasn’t changed), you will be registered to receive a cool DEN Hydro Clock! It was a great reminder for me. I have moved over the summer and forgot to update my mailing address. I’m waiting on my clock now!
Second, the DEN has begun its latest recruitment drive for new STARs called The DENliest Catch. All you have to do is recruit ONE NEW STAR. That’s it! Report your recruitment effort, and once they are official a STAR DEN member, you can choose among three different DVDs from Discovery.

I got an email from BrainPop yesterday informing me of a new video on 9/11. I immediately took a look and…wow…it is great.
Using the popularity of Tim and Moby to tackle such a difficult subject for school-age children really works. The video is informative without being shocking. It sets a mood of respect and compassion for those who lost their lives in the Twin Towers.
Most importantly for me, it does a great job of explaining terms like Islam, Fundamentalism (in all religions), Terrorism, and more.

Wow! School has started. No wait, the end of the first grading period is only one week away, and this is my first blog post of the school year! Yikes! My most humble apologies.Here are a few things you need to put on your calendars for the upcoming weeks:EdTechConnect Webinar with Tim Magner from the Office of Educational Technology. The webinar will be held September 17th at 7 PM EST. I had the pleasure of hearing Tim at the Adobe Breakfast at NECC this summer. The webinar is sure to be a good one! You can register here.The 2008 Stream-A-Thon is nearly upon us, too! The 12-hour event will be held September 23rd from 9 AM to 9 PM. This is a terrific professional development opportunity for your entire school. Whenever teachers have a planning period, they can log in and gain great knowledge on a wide range of subjects. Speakers include Hall Davidson and Lance Rougeux as well as the DEN Account Managers. I will have this streaming in one of our computer labs all day for teachers at our school to come in and participate whenever they can. The Southern Regional Conference will be held in Huntsville, Alabama on October 3rd and 4th. Members of the DEN from several states across the South will be attending.
