On Tuesday, May 27, the DEN sponsored a webinar to announce the DENny Awards. While many, many people were honored, the Tennessee Leadership Council won 3 awards!
First, the leadership council as a whole won an award for Most Creative Events. The two events that put us over the top were our Digital Camera training at Best Buy in Knoxville, and the “Movie”-ing Down the River event at the TN Aquarium. We were psyched win this award!
Second, Tim Childers won a Leadership award for his work regarding the blog and various videos created and uploaded. Also receiving a Leadership award was Susan Tompkins, the chair of the Louisiana LC. You can see a short video created by Tim and Susan at the last DEN Leadership Institute below.
Last, and most importantly, Teryl Magee, won the presitigious Leader Award for her outstanding service to the DEN in TN and beyond. Teryl has done a remarkable job bringing the TN DEN to the forefront of all the LCs across the country.
Your TN Leadership Council is continuing to work hard for all the DEN members across the state. Look for more information soon about upcoming events.
It is nearly time for the Tennessee Association of Middle Schools (TAMS) state conference. This year we are headed to Gatlinburg and the new Smoky Mountain Resort and Water Park Convention Center! The conference is scheduled for June 17 to 19.
The TN DEN LC is working on a social event for STAR DEN members at the conference. While details are still being worked out, I can tell you that we are trying to get together Thursday evening around 7:00 to just visit and get to know our STARs from across the state. Around 8:00 or 8:30 we will move our little shindig to a TAMS event of…..yes, you guessed it….karaoke! Even if you don’t sing, or shouldn’t sing, we will have a blast together listening to (and making fun of) others.
In addition to our fun time together, Teryl and Tim are scheduled to do two presentations during the conference. We are doing a presentation on Building Your Personal Learning Network and another on Digital Storytelling in the Classroom. We would love for you to come join us. They have put us in a room that seats 80, so we need a LOT of people there!
If you haven’t already registered for TAMS, you can do so here. We hope to see you soon!
