Attending DENSI 2013 for the first time has ultimately been the BEST way for myself to quickly and easily connect lasting friendships with like-minded educators. I am in complete awe of the warm and friendly people whom I’ve met who are on the DEN journey of building relationships with each other. I would like to take my experiences from DENSI 2013 and bring it back into the classroom by starting a relationship building activity amongst the students by participating in a Passion Project called DENPals. I teach 4th Grade in Alberta, Canada and during the week I’ve had numerous conversations with new friends who have been curious about the differences in the classrooms between the 2 countries. From Province to Province and State to State, there are both similarities and differences and with the idea of becoming a DENPal, wouldn’t it be fun for the students to have the opportunity to make life-long friendships, along with practicing reading and writing that will help improve literacy skills and to learn more about each others locations and life-styles? You just never know, and from the friendship connections I’ve made this week, you just may be the educator who ignites a lasting friendship between your student and another student even if they are States or Provinces away. If this project interests you, please fill out the questions on the following form and after the results are posted, feel free to contact an educator where you would both work together to assign DENPals amongst your students. I am excited and also very hopeful about the beginning of a lasting friendship project that will help expand students’ connections and knowledge of the world by way of having a DENPal.
