Scavenger Hunt Google Style

There’s a great idea for introducing elementary students to Google Earth over at Tech Savvy Educators blog. The gist of the activity is for students to find famous places in Google Earth and once they do, they get a cool badge that looks like the one to the right. He even includes a worksheet for you to use. Thanks Ben!

Take a Trip with Google and Great Literature

googlelittrips.jpgOne of the most popular activities people engage in while traveling is reading. Great stories, interesting people, and enjoyable. Now imagine reading a book in your personal comforting space and being able to travel at the same time by just a click of the mouse? Do you think your students would be interested? I bet they would.

Google Lit Trips is a great opportunity for students to learn about the travels of the characters in a book through the use of Google Earth. Books from kindergarten through higher ed are featured.  Check the website below frequently because it is regularly updated with new books. Coming Soon to Google Lit Trips - KITE RUNNER.

Google Tools - Page Creator

In an effort to streamline my existence in the craziness of cyber space, I find myself relying more and more on the great tools that Google offers. I think I’m becoming a Googleholic.
Most recently I tried my hand at creating a Google Web Page.  I must say it was very easy. Although not as robust as other web page creators, Google provides the basics. They even host the page for you.
This is great tool for creating simple hotlists, treasure hunts, or student project pages.
Here’s the one I created with a listing of some of the cool tools demonstrated during the DEN Virtual Conferece: http://tstandha.googlepages.com/denvirtualconferencecooltools
