I’m wondering a few things about the Tour – what is the economic impact to the country as a whole? What does it mean, economically or commercially, for a town to host a stage departure or finish? How are the different stage routes chosen? Do communities compete to host or do they compete to be left alone? Is the tour a focal point for anyone advocating an issue (the EU, WTO, the Iraq Invasion, etc…)? Do the French flip-out about “obsenity laws”? Is the guy in the Devil suit officially affiliated with Satan, or is he an unauthorized representative?
