Spring is just around the corner and it’s time to re-energize!

What’s cool and new just in time for spring?    unitedstreaming is about to roll out the brand new update "version 2.3".   Check out Jannita Demian’s blog posting on all the new updates soon to be at your fingertips. And, we will soon unveil out new AWESOME DEN web site thanks to the hard work of On-line Community Manager, Steve Dembo.  Be watching for the new DEN site to go live sometime very soon!

Wisconsin may be feeling wintry lately but spring is not far off because the WEMA Conference is just around the corner on March 5-7 at the Kalahari in the Wisconsin Dells.    Plans are underway to host events for DEN members and potential DEN members so please stay tuned!

One of the opportunities to meet me face-to-face will be during the "round table" sessions held on Monday, March 6 at 8am where you will learn news of an exciting multi-state regional DEN ONLY event!  Only a limited number of Wisconsin DEN members will qualify to attend this 3-day, June 25-28 (tentative dates) "iChicago" digital media event!  This special event is not officially called "iChicago" but I like that name so that is what I am calling it for now.

I will announce more details about the Midwest DEN Only Regional Event during WEMA so make sure you try to attend and seek me out so I can share the news with you! I will be wearing my Discovery Education shirt and will be hanging out in the Vendor Hall with Katie Condon and Tom Bukowski, our superb Wisconsin Sales Team!

DEN members from Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, and Minnesota will be among the 30-40 attendees to have the opportunity to be engaged in this fun adventure exploring how to design digital media infused learning activities such as digital storytelling and digital video editing projects. DEN Field Managers Linda Chiles (KS /MO), Dick Marchessault (IL), Kristin Furdak (MI) and I are planning lots of exciting activities for those selected.   We will be covering costs of hotel or room, food, materials, guest speakers, special group gatherings and evening kick back and relax activities.  Travel to Chicago will be on your own and we will be asking you to bring a wireless laptop.

DEN members will need to apply (application will be available in late February to early March) for this all expenses paid (other than your travel costs) opportunity and the basis of selection will be several requirements including the answers to the following:

1) How you will incorporate the skills you have learned during the 3-day regional event into the classroom?
2) How will you disseminate and share the skills you have gained to others in your school or district?
3) Identify your how you have demonstrated your participation in the WI DEN over the past several months.

Question 3 really relates to being an iACTIVE DEN member… not an iPASSIVE DEN member.

Do you share skills through trainings with other educators?  Do you volunteer to be Guest Blogger of the Week? Do you post comments to our WI DEN Blog?  Have you volunteered to serve as a Beta tester for the new update for unitedstreaming?  Have you created a lesson or project incorporating digital media or other technology resources and submitted it for addition to our DEN lessons? Did you participate in the student poster contest?   (By the way… lessons already submitted will be available to all DEN members via our new DEN web site pending review and any necessary edits).

If you haven’t been ACTIVE, there’s plenty of time to GET GOING so you will be able to qualify for "iChicago!"

Meet just a few of our ACTIVE DEN members… there are many, many more!

Meet Diane Carriveau, Oaklawn Elementary- an active WI DEN member who has shared unitedstreaming and technology integration strategies with many educators in Menomonie School District.

Meet Missy Smits, DePere Unified School District, Foxview Intermediate School, whose students participated in the DEN only poster contest and did a GREAT job!  Missy has also helped many colleagues learn how to integrate unitedsteaming digital media into the classroom.Missysmits

Meet Keith Schroeder, Library Media Specialist, from Marinette School District who provided nine professional development sessions for his staff in fall of 2005.  Keith also has been actively participating through commenting on blogs, offering to host events, and will be a future Guest Blogger of the Week soon.

I’m looking forward to WEMA. If you haven’t signed-up yet, make sure you do. This combined event is going to be awesome this year. I always come back energized and refreshed to trying new things. It’s always the best way I know to stay on top of library media and technology stuff. No more rooms are available at the conference site, but there are tons of other excellent hotels very close to the conference hotel. Check out the conference at http://www.wemaonline.org/ab.main.cfm Hope to see you there!
