Meeting Lisa in Borger, Texas

I had the pleasure of celebrating the winning poster of Ms. Lisa Garcia, 4th grader at Crockett Elementary in Borger ISD this week.  Borger is about an hour drive from Amarillo, Texas.  Here is a picture from my travels up in the panhandle and plains of Texas – tranquil and untouched by big city life (like I am used to in Dallas.)  They probably don’t want me spreading that around, as the residents would like to keep it that way!  Amarillo_plains

During the presentation, all 400 of the schools third and fourth graders, their teachers, and Lisa’s family, all joined to celebrate Lisa and her award-winner poster design.  Mrs. Judy Riggle, DEN teacher who entered her students into the contest, and school principal, Mr. Morrison, and I all cheered Lisa on as she accepted not only a large print poster of her design, but also a $50 gift card to the Discovery Channel Store and a DEN t-shirt.  I asked her what she wanted all the kids across the country to learn from her poster.  She responded, “to think differently!”  That pretty much says it all.  Lisa – you are a amazing girl.  Your parents are very proud of you as well as your teachers and principal.  Keep "thinking outside the shell!”  Lisamr_morrison Mw_lisa_judy

It was a pleasure for Lisa, and our school to share this time with you Michelle. Glad you got to see the Panhandle before the wildfires set in.
