Tip #2: Playlists are Your Biggest Time Saver

Dddtix_16 From Karen Seddon (Field Manager, South Florida)

We finally have a chance to be a little more creative than the rest of the year.  In fact, you know and I know that we NEED to be more creative in these last few weeks of school.  What would be better than adding a unitedstreaming video to your lesson?  Playlists are an incredibly efficient way to get back to those movies you really like without having to search again.

Some things to consider:

• Begin thinking in themes or units.
• Search by keyword or try clicking the Advanced Search and experiment with some combinations.
• Search by one Sunshine State (or PA/DE) Standard.
• Gather as many movies as you can by clicking the “a” button.  This area will allow you to put your movies into a playlist.
• Make as many playlists as you like.
• Consider “dividing” and conquering the work with a teammate and then share the playlists with each other.

Check out these two unique ways that two DEN members in Florida are using their playlists.  Fotini Guzman from Pleasant Hill Elementary School uses the optional description section of the playlist for internet links.  It gives her quick access to sites without having to have two browsers open.

Debbie Bohanan from Reedy Creek Elementary uses her playlists as webquests with video.  She gathers all her research on a particular topic, creates a separate playlist just for that area of study and then shares it with the teachers in her school.

I’m having difficulty with putting links in the playlist descriptions as outlined in your blog. I got the impression that the links would work but all I’m getting is the text that is not hyperlinked…Am I missing something?
Also with the playlist/webquest item…great idea, but if you assign this “webquest” to kids it appears they would need a log in? Am I correct?
