Ray Hernandez… Our Discovery Educator of the Week

Everyone meet Ray Hernandez (that is if you haven’t already!)  He is being featured on our DEN Home Page (http://www.discoveryeducatornetwork.com/) because he has earned the title of DEN Educator of the Week! Ray is also being highlighted on his district’s website www.acsd.k12.ca.us.

Since joining DEN, after a training in his district (Anaheim City), he has remained active by training his staff, attending CUE, participating in the West Coast Regional DEN Conference, attending a meeting with Discovery Education Staff at the Google plex, and taking DEN the Dino on his first surf lesson at our beach bonfire.

Perhaps Ray’s greatest accomplishment in DEN was taking part in the Google Earth project.  10 DEN teachers and their students from around the nation came together virtually to learn more about integrating media and unitedstreaming into their curriculum.  They ousted the traditional way of turning in state reports by creating fly by tours of the 50 states.  Students worked in teams to create placemarks for the capital, historical events, famous people, geography, and much more.

Ray was able to represent DEN by presenting his project at the Student Technology Showcase at NECC. 3 of his students joined him at the largest educational computing conference and wowed educators and they demonstrated their skill.  Can you believe that educators were actually going to the Google booth telling them they had to check these kids out! He and his students managed to keep their booth packed the whole 3 hours!

It was even better meeting Noah at the beach party. See you at the next beach party on Aug. 25. I know who to call for help with Google Earth. See you soon!
