September 1!

It’s September 1st! That means that the Florida Teams are ready to start their commenting and grapevine contest. Woo Hoo! Let’s go North Florida! Okay, so let’s give you something to comment about.

On my "address bar" I have the blog abbreviated to DEN_NFL. NFL makes me think football, when I am really more of a hockey fan. Anyway, can we come up with a new name? I mean, we have the Bucs, the Sting Rays, the Lightening, Dolphins —- what can Team North Florida’s Mascot be? What can our team name be? Comment below! And South Florida, be nice now. 🙂

How about the Explorers? We do not fear “DISCOVERING” new territories!

Or the Challengers, since we are always up for a challenge?

Question…How far do you want us to go back to comment on the blogs for the contest? Starting with this one or going back further?

Let’s start with this one. Comments from September 1st forward count. 🙂

Sounds great, Danielle. I’m working on my numbers and tips already!

I really like explorers (thanks Michele). As teachers we are always exploring new idea and tips to work better in and out of the classroom !

I like “Pioneers” since that’s what we really are. We’re leading the way and blazing new trails for others to follow. And isn’t the need for “discovery” what being a pioneer is all about?

I am going to have to think on this one for a while. I like both Explorers and Pioneers.

For what it’s worth….Pioneers sounds outdated, to me. It reminds me of the Pioneers in History.

A mascot eh? I like the manatee myself. It’s such a lovable little creature and it is definitely associated with Florida.

We can even call him Matty the Manatee (Mattie if you wanted). If you wanted to be feminine specific we could go with Maxine the Manatee.

I love “Explorers”! We are always “discovering” new paths and blazing new trails! In fact, another suggestion would be “Trailblazers” 😉

Danielle, of course south Florida will be nice. A mascot eh! let me think on this a bit.

Pioneers outdated? It’s a term used everyday in our constantly changing world!

A definition: 2. one who is first or among the earliest in any field of inquiry, enterprise, or progress: pioneers in cancer research.

    And some more:
    8. to be the first to open or prepare (a way, settlement, etc.).
    9. to take part in the beginnings of; initiate: to pioneer an aid program.
    10. to lead the way for (a group); guide.

When thinking about our own country’s pioneers, and what they stood for and all they accomplished, it makes me proud when I’m referred to as a pioneer in my field. That means more than I can express here in this blog.

It may not be a “cute & fuzzy” term but it certainly isn’t as outdated as one may think. Just do a google and see for yourself.

Well Danielle, let the games begin. Let’s see now, a team mascot, considering my driving experiences with you[:-)]I kind of think Explorers would work, although, Navigators would fit too. I love getting lost in the DEN and unitedstreaming. Thank you, you have opened many doors. Go South Florida!

I like Sylvia’s idea about the navigators the “northern navigators”. What about the “innovators” or “voyagers”.

  15. Angel Spurling said:

I still like explorers however Shannan’s idea of voyagers is very catchy !!

I like explorers too. Unfortunately due to the demands of teaching middle school English in the state of Florida I feel almost programed to add the word “FCAT” in front of the word explorer.

Good ole FCAT Explorer! I think it will forever haunt me. 😉

Maybe with a DEN association I can break out of the viscious cycle I find myself in. }:-)

I like Northern Navigators as it reminds me of the story “Northern Star” by Peter Reynolds.

If you went with Matty the Manatee, you could tell Matt that you named the group in honor of him.
