Atlanta anyone?

Necc2007_1One of my favorite conferences (after FETC of course) is NECC. I was sad to miss this past year’s in San Diego. I always learn so much from going to the different vendor booths and sitting in on their presentations, from networking with the teachers there, attending fascinating sessions, and exploring the city that NECC is hosted in.  As a tech coach in SC, I could only attend if I presented. (If you do a three hour or longer workshop, you can qualify for a stipend and some of your travel back.)

IsteOf course, Discovery Education will be there, so I’m hoping you will be there too! (We have a great booth site – near Apple, HP, and Scholastic!) One way to go is to present. ISTE has the workshop proposals open until October 4. These can be 1 hour concurrent, half day or full day workshops. Submit as many as you can or want. Think of all topics we have covered: digital storytelling, Inspiration with unitedstreaming, TimeLiner with unitedstreaming, The Builders of unitedstreaming, podcasting with the sound effects in unitedstreaming, Interactive PowerPoints, Cosmeo, etc. The competetion is always tough, but worth it. Be creative with your title, be creative with your program description. Try to get their theme in: Learning and Leading with Technology. (Polk, you have a presentation already on this one!)

And remember, if you are using unitedstreaming in your presentation – I’ll give you a door prize to give away. If you want to write me in as a CO-presenter, let me know. I’ll be glad to be your assistant. I’m thinking of what I want to send in myself. I don’t want to miss this one!

Question? Can anybody go if you present a proposal to ISTE. WE will have to pay travel right? and when is this happening? I am ready to send a proposal to ISTE, I just checked the site. Though I wanted to know a little more about days, travel expenses, etc. Always a little helps.

Anyone can go – anyone can apply to present. All the expenses though are on you. I’ve known a few schools to help out with registration with professional development funds. Travel and all will be on you though. However, DEN usually hosts a dinner – so that’s one meal you won’t pay for.

I plan on attending – not sure I want to present though – anyone needing a co-presenter I would be glad to assist.

Cheryl – why don’t you and Michele do an ESE presentation?

I would be happy to present with you! Let’s put out heads together and think about that, if you are interested? I think the ESE would be different from what anyone else is doing?

We don’t have NetTrekker from D.I. in our schools. But, I loved it when I saw it an NECC. Mike also showed it to us at SERDE. If you have access to that or we might can get a free copy from D.I., I would love to incorporate it into a lesson. It is an awesome tool for ESE students and your lower level or Elementary school students.

If Cheryl or anyone else is interested in co-presenting at NECC let me know?

Hey MIchelle – sorry didn’t get back sooner but YEAH lets do it! The problem is I also do not have net Tracker. Contact me off the board and we can throw some things around!

Do you know how much the stipend is? The presentation has to be 3 hours or longer to receive this, right? Can it be 3 or more 1 hour sessions or does it have to be 1 3 hour session?

The stipend is for one person (so you’d have to split it) and is only offered for workshop presenters, not concurrent or bird of the feathers sessions. I believe a 3 hour is $450, plus $350 for travel and $50 for supplies. But I could be wrong. I didn’t go this year, and so the last stipend I received was in 2005. It’s more if you do a 6 hour training. You could do the Power Tools for All Students – and I’ll get you some information on this topic.

Is the stipend from Discovery or your county?

Does anyone have deadline for applying to present at NECC?

One more question, what are the dates for this year’s NECC?
