Sylvia Vigo-Smith, one of our STAR DEN members in South Florida is so excited to be teaching Language Arts again. She moved to Bellalago Charter Academy this year and is getting her students interested in grammar with unitedstreaming. I’ll let Sylvia explain it in her own words….
I love the DEN and I LOVE unitedstreaming. This is my first year back to teaching grammar in about 12 years so I use unitedstreaming videos to first brush up on my skills and then put them into Powerpoint presentations with notes to teach the skills to my students. It’s a fun way to break up notes so the kids don’t become bored. Professor Syntax and I are on a first name basis and my students now look forward to seeing him and his friend Nemesis. I usually show the whole video and then break up the segments with notes in between re-enforcing the video. If the students are having problems understanding I can replay the segment to reteach with more from the textbook and/or other reproducibles.
Do you have a favorite character in unitedstreaming?
First, the DEN podcast. I am very excited about this because I have become a podcaster and enjoy listening "ubiquitously." I am also creating a South FL podcast and will have it ready soon (how’s that for vague?) Our National Blog DEN podcast is going to feature Character Education in the first episode and all the details can be found on the National DEN site. If you haven’t subscribed to the National DEN site, I highly recommend it.
Second, the T + L Conference is being held in Dallas, TX, Nov. 8 -10th. Now you may wonder why we are mentioning this in Florida, but we are looking for a few great STAR DEN members who love to attend. If you love technology and are adventurous, check out all the details. If I were you, I would definitely comment on the National blog about it!
Thanks again Florida, you have had some of the greatest unitedstreaming ideas and comments in this Good News Grapevine Contest. The contest runs until October 31st. No pressure!
