DEN Earth and Space Virtual Project

Engage_3With the recent buzz surrounding Discovery Channel’s hit series Planet Earth, Science Channel’s Space Week
coming in May, and all STAR DEs getting access to Discovery Education Science Connection, we are very excited to announce the Discovery Educator Network Earth and Space Virtual Project.

Together STAR Discovery Educators will launch into an extraordinary collaborative learning experience.  Over the course of the next six weeks, you and your students (of all ages) will have the opportunity to connect with classrooms from across the country and participate in a series of challenges known as DEN Missions.

The project is designed to be a fun, interactive and collaborative experience for you and your students.  Visit the DEN Earth and Space Virtual Project site
today and register (click on "create a new account").

Once you register, you’ll be able
to…

  • Chat Live with other classrooms across the country
  • Work with your students on DEN Missions (the first one involves Google Earth)
  • Participate in online polls
  • Attend special webinars
  • Collaborate with other STARs using the Discussion Boards
  • Enhance your project using resources from Discovery Education Science Connection

We hope you are as excited as we are about the project.  From DEN Missions, to lively discussions, to special webinars, we are certain that this will be a great experience for you and your students.

For classes that participate in the project, we will be awarding special Discovery Earth and Space Class Packs.

Oh if only we weren’t doing our State testing for the first two weeks of this project. This sounds great and I would love to have my class participate. I look forward to enviously hearing others report and hope to be able to participate in another such project at another time. The time should work for the West Coast too. Thanks for considering this. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work well with my own school schedule, but I plan to be creative and make it work if it happens again. Really looks like a great idea. Thanks for all the neat opportunities y’all are providing.

Wow! This looks great. I think this is going to open our students’ eyes to a lot. Many of my kids have never traveled out of the Knoxville area, let alone TN! I feel so lucky that this is going to work with our schedule well. We just finished state testing today. Thanks for creating such a great project for us to involve our students in!

I already logged in. This site looks great and already introduced myself. My school will be testing for 2 weeks but that doensn’t stop us. I have one fifth grade class that I can squeeze into my schedule and will be participating. We may not be able to attend some of the webinars due to time conflicts but we will try.

Can you participate if you can’t attend the webinars? I would like to participate, but thought we were out of luck because we will be testing at that time of day. Just hoping that there will be more in the future.

You can participate in all or part of the project. Whatever fits your class schedule.

Great! I have now signed on and am planning how to do Mission 1 with my students. We won’t be able to participate in the Webinars, but it is great we can participate in some small way. Thanks!!!
