NECC Update!

Plans for the National Educational Computing Conference are well underway.  In case you missed the earlier post, here is a recap, including a few updates and an opportunity to volunteer:

  • DEN pre-conference event in cooperation with Animal Planet Summer Adventure! – Over 40 DEN members from across the country will be attending this full day event on Sunday, June 24, 2007.  Bus transportation will be provided.  (Pick up 8AM at the OMNI CNN Hotel ~ Return by 5PM so we are back in time for the evening NECC keynote).  Additional details will follow via email.
  • Monday Evening DEN Dinner – On June 25, we will end the first full day of the conference by networking with over 80 DEN members from across the nation.  Come celebrate the DEN’s second birthday from 7-11PM at:
              AZIO Downtown
              229 Peachtree Street Northeast
              Atlanta, GA 30303
  • Get your DEN Shirts – If you are attending either the pre-conference or DEN dinner, we have ordered you two Discovery Educator Network polo shirts for NECC.  We are asking everyone to wear the light blue shirt Monday and the green one Tuesday.  If you are attending the pre-conference, you will receive your shirts there.  If not, you can pick them up in the lobby of the OMNI CNN Hotel Sunday night from 8PM-10PM.  I will be the one on the comfy couch next to the big box of shirts!
  • Discovery Education Booth – Visit the Discovery Education Booth (booth #424).  We will be hosting a full lineup of sessions exploring ways educators across the country are integrating digital media into their teaching.  We are also excited to share with you new additions to the Discovery Education family of products and services: Discovery Education One Place, Discovery Education Science Connection, and Discovery Education ThinkLink Assessment.
  • Want to Volunteer? – In the past, we have had several requests from Discovery Educators to spend some time in the Discovery Education booth during conferences.  This year, we also received requests from some of our major partners, such as ISTE and InFocus, to have Discovery Educators share their knowledge and expertise.  Therefore, if you would like to donate some of your conference time to speak with other educators about how you integrate digital media in your classroom, sign up here (password is "discovery").  A little added incentive, anyone volunteering will receive a full Planet Earth DVD set for their personnel enjoyment.

I look forward to NECC and hope to see you there!

I am really excited about NECC and am busy preparing a paper to deliver. My goal is to convict teacher educators to integrate technology within their methods courses so first-year teachers will have good models to follow.

Let me know ( if there’s anything you think professors of education should be sure to do in their pre-service methods courses to ensure first-year teachers are ready to confidently and skillfully integrate technology into their curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional productivity.

I was just granted funding to attend NECC. Is there any way to sign up at this late date for the Pre-Conference event or the DEN dinner?

I heard such great things about the Discovery, especially DEN, components at NECC last year I am looking forward to learning and experiencing great things.

I know this is late, but I have been in D.C. and have just had time to respond. If there is still room, I would love to come to dinner on Monday night. My shirt size is XL. If not, I will see you at NECC…somehow…somewhere.

Is it too late to sign up? I will be at NECC driving from Birmingham on Sunday or can come in Saturday night if necessary. I would love to attend the Sunday and Monday events. Can you send details if it is not too late? Thanks.
