July 4th reminds us not only to appreciate & celebrate our country’s independence, but also to be thankful for all of our individual freedoms; none of which would be possible if not for courageous, brave people who embrace their talents without shrugging off their inherent sense of responsibility to mankind (I know, I know, way too serious!) I thought I’d share with you all my favorite piece of verbal inspiration. I always close the school year out by sharing this reading passage with my students on our last day together…
Our Greatest Fear
(Quoted by Nelson Mandela in his 1994 Inaugural Address)
Our deepest fear is not that we are
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us.
ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be?
small doesn’t serve the world.
There’s nothing enlightened about
So that other people won’t feel insecure around you.
all meant to shine.
We are born to make manifest the
glory of God that is within us.
It’s not just in some of us, it’s in
And as we let our own light shine,
We unconsciously give
other people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our
Our presence automatically liberates others.
I hope you all have a wonderful holiday- Don’t forget to leave the fireworks to the professionals 🙂
Happy Grilling! God Bless America-
