At home in Texas

Well, I’m back home from the Florida Institute and trying to process all the information that I’ve received in the last few days.  I don’t want to go into too much detail and spoil things for the Berkeley Institute attendees, but I’ll try to give you a little insight into the experience.

The great thing about the Florida Institute was that, because it was on a cruise, all the Discovery Education staff who attended were there for the entire Institute.  On land, they can drop in for a day or two, but on this one, they were our captive audience.  We learned so much from spending day after day with everyone and it was really great as we worked on our projects to be able to grab Steve Dembo, Lance Rougeux, Joe Brennan, or Hall Davidson to help us with tech questions!  Everyone at Discovery was amazing!

One thing I learned about that I’ll share was during our "Cruising with the Stars", where STAR DEs had a chance to share something with everyone.  One of our STARs shared the Flip Camera.  This little camera is a powerful tool that easily fits into any budget.  These cameras can cost as little as $85.  They can hold either 30 minutes or 60 minutes of video, and with the flip-out USB 2.0 arm, moving the video to your computer is as easy as it can be!  Check these out, and then head over to Donor’s Choose and write some small grants to purchase some!

Watch the blog — I’ll be adding more of the information from the Institute, along with pictures!

I do have to agree with Elaine, besides cruising, the networking was the best. I am now in the process of categorizing all the topics that were covered. All of the Discovery experts there was the best resource of all.
