Tackling Test Stress Tip 5: Practice Relaxing

One way to help your students reduce stress is to practice relaxation techniques.

Encourage students to breathe deeply and slowly.

They can also tense and relax the muscles throughout their body to reduce stress.

    I teach 4th through 6th grade students and we do various brain gym activities throughout the day. We have a couple of students who really need to do these activities throughout the day to be successful in school, but we have found in doing them as whole class, the individuals do not feel left out and the whole class really benefits. The days that we do not do these activities, the students ask for them and crave them. They range from stimulation activities, to attention getting activities, to relaxation and focus. Check out books and sites about brain gym exercises!
