South Carolina is preparing for a sales tax holiday this weekend, making it a great time to purchase a few gadgets for your classroom.
SC Department of Revenue
Code Section 12-36-2120(57) provides for an annual three-day sales tax holiday for sales
taking place from 12:01 a.m. on the first Friday in August and ending at midnight on the
following Sunday. Accordingly, the 2010 sales tax holiday weekend will begin Friday,
August 6, 2010 at 12:01 a.m. and end Sunday, August 8, 2010 at midnight.
The list of items available for exemption can be found on the SC Dept of Revenue’s website.
We asked around to see what kinds of gadgets educators are looking into and wanted to share just a few things that people mentioned.
IPEVO Point 2 View USB Document Camera
This versatile tool was mentioned in Tony Vincent’s popularLearning in Hand blog. For less than $100, this lightweight and portable document camera boasts a tiny price compared to most of the doc cams on the market.
Flip Ultra Video Camera
The Flip video camera allows for quick capturing of student movies that can easily be transferred to your computer. The USB attachment is built into the device, turning digital video into a simple plug-and-play activity.
Wireless Presenter (example from Logitech)
Wireless presenters are the perfect tool to assist you in moving around the classroom while controlling your computer and presentation. The laser pointer allows you to highlight what’s on the screen or Interactive whiteboard, while the wireless connection gives you the ability to have close proximity to your students.
And the ONE gadget that several educators in the DEN seem to love:
The Staples “Easy” button is just plain fun. What a great addition to any classroom or media center where students can give themselves a pat on the back for a job well done.
