Mary Carol Strother has been named Elementary Teacher of the Year for McKinney ISD. She is a great asset to the DEN Leadership team and we want to recognize her hard work and dedication to her students, educators and the DEN Leadership team. Keep up the excellent work Mary!

Steve Dembo has received an award for his Leadership in education on October 12th. National School Board Association’s (NSBA) Technology Leadership Network named their top Twenty to Watch. He is recognized for promoting innovative technology into high-quality classroom learning and district operations.

Anyone who has been part of the DEN for even a second knows how talented, collaborative and creative Steve Dembo, our Director of the Online Community and Social Media Strategy, really is.  He is a thought leader in education – Teach42.  He is a Wizard of Web 2.0

Steve Dembo has been a champion of educational technology, constantly pushing school districts to try new ideas. He was one of the first educators to use Twitter and also was one of the first educational podcasters. His blog,, is frequently listed as one of the top educational blogs. As director of the Silver Spring-based Discovery Educator Network’s online community, Dembo oversees online activities for thousands of educators.  He has hosted hundreds of hours of professional development seminars for teachers, both online and in person.
