The Hub’s K-5 Video Contest

Hub K-5

The Hub, Discovery’s new children’s channel for kids and families has a digital storytelling contest for K-5 students that will be judged in 2 divisions: K-2 & 3-5. The December 18th deadline is rapidly approaching, but The Hub is providing a framework and resources to get you started. This could be a great way to kick start your young students’ digital storytelling talents and maybe even add a Flip Cam, green screen and software to your classroom’s toolbox.

For every contest entry from students of STAR Discovery Educators we will donate a toy to a local charity in Silver Spring, MD.

  1. Read the rules for the contest.
  2. Have your students complete their stories in class, during an after-school program or for homework.
  3. Submit the stories to The Hub Create a Story Contest.
  4. Let us know how many entries your class submitted by completing this form.

The Hub Create a Story Contest is for students in kindergarten through fifth grade.  Everyone has a tale to tell.  Bring out the writer and storyteller in your students by helping them enter The Hub Create a Story Contest.  You put together groups of students, give them a few Hub characters to choose from and a couple of prompts, and they do the rest.  Where the plot goes is entirely up to them.  That’s the power and the beauty of storytelling.

In addition to earning toys for students in need, the winning groups will be featured on the web and receive a Hub prize pack, and the teacher can win a digital storytelling prize pack for his/her classroom including a green screen, flip video camera and digital storytelling software.

Inspire your students to write for a a purpose this holiday season and then let us know how many entries your class submitted so we can donate toys on their behalf by completing this form.
