Sarah is a new Canadian DEN STAR!

Hi! My name is Sarah Blanchard and I just became a DEN STAR Educator!

What school do you work at and what is your role?

My primary role is teaching Grade 3 to a wonderful group of busy children. I am also one of three Discovery Education lead teachers at Forest Hills School of School District #8 in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada. As a lead, I provide guidance to students and teachers to help integrate technology and Discovery Education into classrooms. My goal is to help teachers deliver the curriculum in a way that is innovative to captivate the attention of students.

What is your background?

I have been an educator for 5 years with a background in Elementary Education. I have a Bachelor of Science degree from Mount Allison University in Sackville, New Brunswick, Canada and a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Calgary, Calgary, Alberta, Canada. I am also in the process of pursuing my Masters of Education degree through the University of Calgary.

How does your District use Discovery Education?

Our district is in the process of implementing Discovery Education in most of our 35 schools many of which are piloting Netbook programs for students. We are in the process of getting all teachers to log on and use the website for lessons, tests, and homework. Students are provided with a username and password so they may access videos and class materials from wherever they can access a computer.

How do you like to spend your free time?

I spend most of my free time with my husband and chasing after my 18-month old daughter. I also enjoy running, races, swimming and reading.
