Welcome Travis To Our DEN STAR Community!

Hi! My name is Travis Carr and I just became a DEN STAR Educator!

What school do you work at and what is your role?

I work at three school in an area called Grand Bay near Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada. Inglewood School, Grand Bay Primary, and Morna Hieghts School are where I spend my days this year. I am the Physical Education teacher at all of these schools, but since they are just small schools in a small communities, I bounce around through the week to visit the schools. I have met almost all the kids from one end of the community to the other, and it has been an rewarding experience so far.

What is your background?

Before teaching P.E., I taught grade 2, 3, 4, and 5 – that is what happens when you are “low-man-on-the-totem-pole.” I am currently working through a Masters Degree in Education from the University of New Brunswick to go along with a Bachelor of Liberal Studies and Elementary Education from the University of Maine, and a Bachelor of Business Administration from St. Francis Xavier University. I grew up in Brewers Mills, a little village outside of Kingston, Ontario, and I moved to Saint John about 10 years ago.

How does your District use Discovery Education?

If you have been following the other posts about the DEN STARS from Saint John, you are well aware of how our district is using Discovery Education. My contribution will be to integrate Discovery Education with the Physical Education Program- it is still a work in progress, but it is looking very promising.

How do you like to spend your free time?

Free time??? Time seems to be a valuable resource these days, but when I am not spending time with my wife, two boys and our dog, I like to play guitar, paint, hike/camp, mountain bike, woodworking, cook, and coach high school football…speaking of free time, I think I will go spend some! I am glad to be a part of this community!

    Good morning,
I am a Technology Educator in Baltimore, Md. USA. I am a resource for all the teachers and staff in my k-8 building. We are a special needs school and so we use every resource imaginable. The D.E. video clips are probably our biggest resource. I have been a special educator for over 30 years.
