Welcome Tom Metuzals to Discovery Education!

Tell me about your role at Discovery Communications?

I’m the Regional Director for Central and western Canada, Tom Metuzals. I work in the Toronto office.  I’ve been with Discovery since January 2011.

What do you love about Discovery?

The fact that we are transforming classrooms and helping teachers engage students is exciting for me. Nowadays students want to consume video, create and share interactive multi-media presentations. I love that Discovery Education provides them the opportunity to do that. I only wish I had these tools when I was in high school!

What is your favourite part of the job?

Meeting all the fantastic educators across Canada is an obvious plus. The energy and enthusiasm that educators bring to their work only motivates me more. I’m excited about how the technology is changing the way we are learning and teaching, and the role that Discovery plays in that change. That’s exciting.

What do you like to do in your free time?

Music and food take up most of my free time. I’m the co-chair of the Jazz committee for the Juno Awards (this year they will be held in Toronto!). I enjoy cooking and discovering new foods and flavours. The two come together when I make my annual pilgrimage to the Montreal International Jazz Festival: the best restaurants in Canada and the best music festival in world. In the picture above, I’m ditch fishing just outside of Winnipeg. It’s an annual rite that many people participate in. You can literally dip your net in the water and catch fish. They are suckers, and we tend to put ’em back,  but it was still a thrill to stand in the middle of the river and scoop up the fish! Try it, you’ll never forget it!
