Tuesday night brought the 2011 Discovery Education DENny Awards. This special webinar is for all Discovery Educator Network STAR educators to join in celebrating the events, performances, and growth of our PLN. During the celebration multiple DEN personalities including Porter Palmer, Steve Dembo and Lance Rougeux presented information on upcoming events, including the Geocaching Day (Saturday) May 21, 2011, along with those receiving special recognition. If interested in participating in the Kansas hosted event in Wichita please review the blog post on our site.
As for Kansas, we can stand tall and hold our heads high as the state received three honors. The first honor was in the category of “Most Creative DEN Event“. This event was lead by Melinda Tilley, supported by Chelsea Whisnent, Dean Mantz, and many folks in the Fort Leavenworth schools, by hosting the “Celebrate Our Heroes” Day of Discovery in Fort Leavenworth. This event provided participants the opportunity to tour Fort Leavenworth and learn about it’s rich history and involvement in the United States expansion westward. The special portion of the day was spent interviewing and visiting with military officers stationed at the Officer Training Institute. In addition to this event being recognized, Melinda (Mindy as we know her) also was honored by being named a “Community Choice: Willingness to Serve Award“. The award recognizes the endless hours and travel Melinda (Mindy) provided Kansas educators while focusing on Discovery Education. The final honor was bestowed on Dean Mantz. Dean was named as one of the five Discovery Education Network Gurus. Dean joins Cheryl Lykowski (MI), Kathy Schrock (MA), Jennifer Wagner (CA), and Rita Mortenson (WI). Congratulations to all five of the DEN Gurus!
As mentioned earlier, there were several awards handed out by Discovery Education Network folks. Those interested in learning about all DEN STAR recognitions can view the embed SlideShare presentation.
