Tech Tip of the Week:How to embed DE videos in PowerPoint!

Did you know that you can download Discovery Education videos for use in your classroom PowerPoint presentations? In recent years, embedding DE videos in PowerPoint has become one of the most popular uses of our content for student users. It’s quick and easy to do!

First, locate the video you want to use, and verify under “Download Type” (beneath the video player) that your preference is set to ASF. Download the video by right clicking on the blue film strip icon on the segment you want to use, and choose “Save Target As” (“Save Link As” in Firefox), then save it into any folder you like.

In PowerPoint, on the “Insert” dropdown menu, select “Movies and Sounds” and then click the “Movie from File” option. In the “Insert Movie” window, navigate to the folder where you saved the video; select the video segment and then click “OK”. A dialogue box will prompt you to decide whether you wish to have the video play automatically or not.

PowerPoint accepts the .ASF file format. In the case of our users that host Discovery Education content locally, your video may end in a .ASX file extension. If so, you can right click on it, choose “Rename”, and change the extension from ASX to ASF (ex: “The_Visitor.asf”).

PowerPoint embedding gives you countless ways to integrate our videos into your projects!
