Why not try a Tweet?

I have had several conversations with teachers recently about using Twitter in the classroom.  Most of the conversations had a negatively slant to any use of Twitter.  I want to try and help teachers understand that although Twitter may not be a tool for every situation it certainly has a place in education both as a classroom and professional tool.  When I first used Twitter, in a book club, I used it to share my thoughts of the book and it really made it exciting!  I couldn’t wait to see what others would say when something happened to one of the characters in the story.  It wasn’t that I couldn’t enjoy the book without the conversation but I will tell you this; I learned more from reading that book than probably any other book I’ve ever read.  I was hooked!  I started using Twitter to find cool web tools and to connect with other technology coordinators from all over the world.  The fact that Twitter is quick makes it even better to be able to get information and ideas on the fly.  I’ve also witnessed teachers using Twitter with student to have a quiet classroom while background conversations are happening via Twitter.  I have used Twitter at almost every conference I have been to over the last 4 years.  I would love to hear some of your ideas about great Twitter uses in the classroom and as a professional tool…
