Witnessing Climate Change

Treehugger.com reports an exhibit of pictures taken by individuals to support evidence of climate change in Turkey. People are encouraged by Climate Advocates for “wear ‘climate glasses’ for identifying changes in the environment. Click here to read the article.

This is a good project for students to investigate their environment. Use images from the Discovery Education Science Techbook for students to discuss what may cause climate change. Students can also take their own pictures outside the school or in their neighborhoods. Have students create a Photopeach or video presentation discussing changes they have identified around them. Combine this with an exploration such as Changing Climate Quickly or Our Climate in the Long Run to learn how weather conditions affect change over time.

Understanding changes in the environment through activities such as this give students first hand experiences towards taking better care of the world around us.
