After sending out a question to my library listservs on what they thought students should know to be culturally literate these days, one respondent told me that in presenting this concept to a class got comments on antiquated information that is not going to help students in the future.
What do you think? Is there still a need for cultural literacy in this day and age? If so, what items would you put on a cultural literacy list today?
One out of curiosity question: what are some items on Discovery you think might help students with cultural literacy? For example there are resources for nursery rhymes, folktales, and class literature. What else? How would you work this into curriculum?
With food for thought (an idiom?), this is ME signing off for now.
